The Archivo de la Universidad de Santo Tomás (AUST), or Archives of the University of Santo Tomás, is the official repository of documents pertaining to the 400-year-old life of the University. It is responsible for the collection, preservation, accessibility, and promotion of the University’s documentary heritage. At the heart of these collections is the original Foundation Act of 1611, a pivotal document that signifies the establishment of our institution. The diverse collections also feature statutes that trace the evolution of our governance through the centuries. Manuscripts are preserved, showcasing the thought processes of historical thinkers, while photographs capture momentous occasions in our history and events that have defined our University. Within this rich tapestry are historical documents such as academic records that reflect the educational journeys of countless students, papal bulls that signify important ecclesiastical matters, royal decrees that highlight the University’s historical ties to governance, and rare Filipiniana that celebrate the nation’s cultural heritage. In addition to these significant documents, the AUST keeps university periodicals offering insights into campus life and academic discourse over the years.
Furthermore, it safeguards the academic grades and degrees of its alumni, who include exceptional scholars, revered Filipino national heroes, prominent historical figures, and even canonized saints, ensuring their legacies are preserved for future generations. The AUST maintains materials that go beyond the history of the UST, shedding light on various topics, especially on the cultures and histories of the region, the Dominicans, and the Church.
